Our Soaps

Our soaps are all made in small batches from our home soapery in Whangamata on the Coromandel Peninsula.

Saponification - a fancy word that describes the chemical reaction that takes place when oils and lye are mixed together. Each molecule of the lye bonds with a molecule of the oil, and when all the molecules have been joined, it reaches saponification, thickens and becomes soap.

Once cured, there is no remaining lye, just soap with all of the skin loving oils, and the glycerin which is a natural by product of saponification.
